Taking a deposit

You can require a deposit as part of signing. The customer pays it at the same moment they sign, and it's credited against the invoice when you bill the work, so they aren't charged for it twice.

What it needs

Card payments have to be switched on. A deposit is a real payment, so without Stripe connected there's nothing to take it with. Fieldsmith will tell you that rather than sending a proposal that can't be signed.

How the credit works

When you invoice the work, the deposit already paid comes off the total. The invoice shows the full price and the deposit against it, so the customer can see the arithmetic.

Fees

A deposit is a payment like any other, so the usual fee applies to it. Not a second fee, just the one on that payment.
