Help / Invoices

Invoicing automatically when a job is done

Completing a job can build the invoice for you. Settings → Pricing & invoicing controls what happens next: leave it as a draft, send it to the customer straight away, or don't create one at all.

New accounts start on draft

That's deliberate. A brand-new account is running on a placeholder hourly rate you never chose, so auto-sending would email a customer a bill at a number you didn't pick.

Once your rate is right and you've seen a few invoices come out correctly, switching to send is the obvious move. It's the setting that takes the paperwork off you entirely.

When it can't send

If the customer has no email address, Fieldsmith leaves a draft even when you're set to send. It won't create a bill it has no way to deliver.

It never double-bills

A job that already has an invoice won't get a second one, so completing something twice is harmless.
