Job statuses, and what completing a job does

A job is scheduled, in progress, complete, or cancelled. Complete is the one that does something: it's what turns the job into an invoice.

The four states

Scheduled: on the calendar, not started.

In progress: you're there, working.

Complete: the work is done.

Cancelled: it isn't happening. A cancelled job stays on the record but doesn't get billed.

What 'complete' sets off

Marking a job complete builds the invoice from the job. Whether that invoice sits as a draft or goes to the customer depends on your setting in Settings → Pricing & invoicing. New accounts start on drafts.

If the customer has no email address, Fieldsmith leaves you a draft either way rather than creating a bill it can't deliver.

If the job repeats, completing it also puts the next one on the calendar.

It won't double-bill

A job that already has an invoice won't get another one, so marking something complete twice is harmless.
