Sending your first invoice

Marking a job complete builds the invoice from what's on the job. What happens next depends on one setting: Fieldsmith either leaves it as a draft for you to look over, or emails it to the customer straight away.

Drafts first, by default

New accounts start out creating drafts. That's deliberate. Nothing goes to a customer until you've seen it, which matters most on your first few jobs while your rate and your business details are still settling.

Once you trust what it's producing, you can switch it to send automatically in Settings → Pricing & invoicing.

Sending it

Open the invoice, check the amount, and send. It goes to the customer's email with a link they can pay from if you've turned on card payments.

If the customer has no email address on file, Fieldsmith can't send it. Add the email to the customer first.

After it's sent

The invoice shows as sent until it's paid. If a customer pays by card or bank through the link, it flips to paid on its own. You don't have to mark anything.
