Creating a proposal

A proposal is a quote you send for a customer to sign. You build it from line items, send a link, and they sign it online. Once it's signed you can turn it into scheduled work, and what they signed is what gets billed.

Building one

Pick the customer and add line items for the work. The total is worked out for you. Fieldsmith prices it on its own side rather than trusting anything typed into the page, so what the customer signs and what you get paid can't drift apart.

If you send similar quotes often, save one as a template and start from that next time.

Sending it

Sending gives you a link for the customer. They open it, read the quote, and sign. No account, no app, no printing.

You'll see it move from sent to viewed when they open it, which is useful when you're deciding whether to chase.

Asking for a deposit

You can require a deposit as part of signing. The customer pays it at the same time they sign.

That deposit is credited against the invoice later, so they aren't billed for it twice.

After it's signed

A signed proposal can be turned into work on your schedule. The price that gets invoiced is the price they signed, not your usual rate, and not a number recalculated afterwards.
