Fieldsmith vs Housecall Pro for Small Crews (2026): An Honest Comparison
By Fieldsmith · Published
Fieldsmith's Crew plan is $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, for up to 10 people with every feature included. Housecall Pro's closest match, Essentials, starts at $189 a month but covers 5 users; each extra seat runs about $100 a month, so a 10 person crew costs about $689 a month on Essentials, or $399 a month on the $329 MAX plan. Housecall Pro adds two way texting, Android, crew GPS tracking, and QuickBooks sync, none of which Fieldsmith has yet.

What a crew actually costs
Fieldsmith prices by team size, not by feature. Crew is $99 a month ($79 billed annually) for up to 10 people, and every feature in the product is in that price. Hire your fourth or your tenth person and the bill does not move until you cross into Fleet, which covers 10 to 25 people at $199 a month.
Housecall Pro's Essentials plan is $189 a month and includes 5 users; a sixth person is about $100 a month more, so a 10 person crew comes to roughly $689 a month. The cheaper route to 10 seats is its MAX plan at $329 a month, which includes 8 users and charges about $35 for each of the last 2, landing near $399 a month. Either way, growing a crew on Housecall Pro means doing seat math every time someone gets hired; on Fieldsmith it does not, up to 10 people.
Where Housecall Pro pulls ahead
Housecall Pro's texting number lets customers reply to automated and direct messages and land in a shared customer inbox, on every plan including its $79 single user Basic tier. Fieldsmith does not have a two way texting inbox.
Housecall Pro also sends an automated review request by text and email after a job is marked complete, with follow up reminders if the customer does not respond. Fieldsmith's review ask lives on the paid invoice page and the payment confirmation screen, in the owner's pick of three looks, with a link to leave a Google review; it is deliberately never sent by text, because Fieldsmith's SMS consent rules do not cover review asks.
From Essentials up, Housecall Pro tracks where crew members are in real time and syncs invoices, payments and customers to QuickBooks Online. Neither is built into Fieldsmith today; crew GPS tracking is on Fieldsmith's roadmap, and QuickBooks sync is built but not yet turned on for customers.
Housecall Pro also ships both iPhone and Android apps. Fieldsmith has an iPhone app and works in any phone's web browser.
Getting paid: where the fees differ
Card fees favor Housecall Pro on a swiped or tapped payment: 2.59% against Fieldsmith's 3.2% + 30 cents. On a $300 job that is $7.77 versus $9.90. But Housecall Pro's rate depends on how the card is entered: a customer paying through an online invoice is charged 2.99%, and a card entered manually by the crew is 3.49%, both still under Fieldsmith's blended rate on a small job.
Bank transfers favor Fieldsmith on big jobs. Fieldsmith charges 1% capped at $20, so a $4,000 install paid by bank costs $20. Housecall Pro lists ACH at 1% as well, but we did not find a cap on its pricing or help pages, which would make the same payment $40.
Fieldsmith also prints Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, and Zelle handles on the invoice with a code the customer can scan, none of which carry a Fieldsmith fee. Housecall Pro's help centre documents PayPal and Venmo as a pay option; we did not find Zelle or Cash App support on its payment pages.
No sales calls, no add-on shopping
Every note sent from Fieldsmith's feedback button goes straight to the team that builds the product, and requests from early customers have shipped in days. Setup is guided by that same team, with no upsell calls, because there is nothing to upsell: every feature is already in the plan.
Housecall Pro's model is the opposite by design: a lower entry price with a long list of named add-ons (CSR AI, a sales pipeline, payroll, accounting, vehicle GPS hardware, websites, financing) for a crew that grows into needing them.
Which one to pick
- Pick Housecall Pro if your crew needs Android phones, live GPS tracking of where everyone is, or QuickBooks sync today, and you are ready to work out seat costs as you hire.
- Pick Fieldsmith if you want one flat price up to 10 people with nothing to add on, work from iPhones, take a lot of Venmo or Zelle, or bill large jobs by bank transfer.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fieldsmith cheaper than Housecall Pro for a small crew?
For a crew of more than 5 people, yes on list price: Fieldsmith's Crew plan is $99 a month flat for up to 10 people, while Housecall Pro's Essentials plan covers 5 users at $189 a month and charges roughly $100 a month per extra seat, which puts a 10 person crew near $689 a month (or $399 a month on its MAX plan). Housecall Pro includes things Fieldsmith does not yet, like QuickBooks sync and crew GPS tracking, so the fair comparison is cost against what each plan includes, not price alone.
Does Housecall Pro have two way texting?
Yes, on every plan including its $79 single user Basic tier, according to its help centre. Fieldsmith does not have a two way texting inbox.
Does Fieldsmith sync with QuickBooks?
Not yet for customers. Fieldsmith has built QuickBooks sync and is finishing the steps to turn it on; Housecall Pro has shipped QuickBooks Online sync from its Essentials plan up.
Does Fieldsmith have an Android app?
No. Fieldsmith has an iPhone app on the App Store and works in any phone's web browser. Housecall Pro has both iPhone and Android apps.
